To address the childcare worker shortage the commission recommended removing barriers to educators improving their skills, giving incentives to universities who trial new approaches to teacher education and better mentoring. The challenges are similar to those faced by the federal government in the aged care sector, where workforce shortages remain a significant problem and were cited by a royal commission as a key issue.
